New Partnerships for Science

The FAR Hub is excited to announce our strategic partnerships in supporting and delivering our global project, The Impact Of AI On Scientific Foresight

Prof Nicholas Rowland, Distinguished Professor of Sociology & Academic Trustee, Penn State University – Altoona.

Dr Elena Fitkov-Norris, Associate Professor of Data Science and AI at the Department of Accounting, Finance and Informatics at Kingston University.

Dr Luciana Blaha, Assistant Professor and Director of the Intelligent Automation Systems Lab at Edinburgh Business School – Heriot-Watt University.

Dr Taner Doğan, Lecturer in Digital Media and Communications at Queen Margaret University.

Dr Marina Wimmer, Associate Professor of Cognition and Director of The Centre for Mind, Creativity, and Environment Research (CEDAR) at Edinburgh Napier University.

This collaboration is set to deliver powerful insights as we break new scientific ground in investigating human-AI collaborations. The partnership will combine cognitive science expertise with foresight theory and intelligent systems, supported by a critical inquiry into mental “offloading”.

“The project addresses the critical gap
in available data supporting GenAI as
an ‘effective’ foresight tool.” – Dr Blaha

Together, we are uniquely positioned to provide valuable answers to both the scientific community and industries in ways that have yet to be attempted.

“While research on human-machine collaboration
is growing, the application of this in foresight science
is severely lacking and badly needed by decision-making
leadership in government, policy, higher education,
and industry.” – Prof Rowland

Key Benefits and Future Impacts

    • Inform good governance around AI-mediated decision-making in science.
    • Develop new foresight methods for anticipating sustainable resource management.
    • Clarify better forms of social trust and technological credibility in the scientific and political foresight spaces.
    • Creation of a Cognitive Impact Assessment tool to measure AI impacts in human-AI collaboration research.
    • Establishment of a Consortium for Scientific AI Governance with member roles for industry, policy, and academia stakeholders.

Project updates will be shared through the FAR Hub and across our social channels. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter and follow us at any of the links below for updates and opportunities to collaborate.
