Panmure House Debates 2025 – AI and Education

Sold Out!

This year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival saw the revival of Panmure House Debates.

Panmure House — the final home of Adam Smith and not usually open to the public — openned its doors to Fringe audiences for a unique series of live debates. Panmure House Debates invited the public to explore the most urgent questions of our time in the very rooms where Enlightenment thinkers once shaped the modern world.

AI and Education

As AI transforms how we learn and teach, this debate explored its impact on classrooms, educators and lifelong learners. Set in Adam Smith’s historic home, experts from education, tech and philosophy joined together to ask: Can AI enhance learning or diminish it? What values should guide AI in education?

Hosted by Prof. Adam Dixon, with panelists Dr Megan Crawford and Prof. Andrew Manches, moderated by Prof. Thusha Rajendran.

All debates this year were sold out! For a new event, this is a spectacular achievement and shows the levels of interest in these topics within the general public and our individual communities so a big thank you for helping to facilitate this as well as taking part in these events.
